Phaidon Cookbooks
Since I can remember, a good book store or Barnes and Noble has always been a place I go when I am feeling down or needing inspiration, a place to get lost in my thoughts, good or bad. Specifically, during a hard time in my life I found myself lost in the Barnes and Noble on 3rd street in Santa Monica (which is now sadly closed) every Sunday for several months. It became a church of kinds, my place of respite and solitude, to get away from everything. Three glorious floors of books and ideas to uncover. When you visit the same bookstore so often, you start paying attention to things you never noticed before. And one of the many gems that came my way, one eye-catching design after the other all with the greek letter, Phi Φ, on the spine. My Phaidon cookbook collection began, however slowly. And really my love for well designed cookbooks and the Phaidon Press books in general too.
More than recipes, each cookbook is a window into diverse culinary traditions and recipes, each beautifully designed to tell its unique story.
*I am a designer, I will always judge a book, book, by it’s cover.
