Food for Thought
Award-Winning Cover: UCLA College Magazine 2022 Edition
For over 20 years, UCLA College Magazine has showcased the extraordinary work of faculty, students, and supporters. The Food For Thought issue celebrated the launch of a new institute for the study of food, highlighting UCLA’s leadership in food research. The cover and centerpiece featured ingredients sourced from UCLA alumni, faculty, and students, reinforcing the university’s role in food education, access, and innovation. Food, like art, is a universal language—an exploration of the human condition that connects us through culture and emotion. From the Citrus State of California to the bright optimism of UCLA, the cover metaphorically delivers a "box of food for thought" to readers. Designed as a multi-sensory experience, it offers a vibrant first impression—seen, felt, and "tasted" with the eyes first—brought to life two-dimensionally through photography and three-dimensionally in print.
As Creative Director, I led the design and art direction, ensuring a visually compelling and strategically engaging publication. We sourced food from UCLA alumni, faculty, and students, collaborated with the photographer and created custom-designed cookie cutters for the masthead and typography.

To promote the magazine, we created a highlight reel, structuring the script as a montage of messages from the issue. I directed the overall vision and narrative, ensuring a cohesive, engaging flow. Working closely with our senior designer, we meticulously crafted each section, aligning design, pacing, and messaging to bring the magazine’s themes to life in a dynamic and compelling way.
